Dr Eileen Mertz, Kansas native and proud K-State grad, opened Gardner Animal Hospital in 1986. Some business owners might have hit their stride and then maintained the status quo after several years in business. Maintaining the status quo, however, is not in Dr Mertz’s business plan. As a result, she has been selected for the 2009 Class of Women Who Mean Business! by the Kansas City Business Journal and its partners, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, M&I Bank and Johnson County Community College. Twenty-five outstanding women in the Kansas City area are recognized annually for their career accomplishments and for their contributions to the success of other women in our community.
It’s appropriate that this personal award coincide with the announcement by Kansas City business magazine ’Ingram’s’ that Gardner Animal Hospital is among its ‘2009 Corporate Report 100’ fastest-growing businesses headquartered in the greater Kansas City region.
Gardner Animal Hospital has grown and developed as the population of Gardner has grown and developed. They moved into their current facility at 945 East Santa Fe, Gardner, KS, in 2003. They now also offer boarding services as Dog Days Inn & Cat House, plus provide complete grooming and obedience training services.
And in her spare time? Dr Mertz will soon receive her pilot's license. Now that seems to be in keeping with her business plan!
